My Ex-Girlfriend could not have predicted the achievement that would bring so much pride to the nation on July 27, 2021, but they did dream it.
Earlier this year, on Independence Day, June 12, 2021, My Ex-Girlfriend released a song they humbly dedicated to Filpino athletes competing in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Entitled LABAN PILIPINAS, they had hoped that the song would instill pride in everyone who heard it.
"Laban Pilipinas was specifically created for the Tokyo Olympics and our athletes. We wanted to uplift the spirits of our athletes despite the times and we hoped that the whole country would join us in waving proud our Philippine flag to the world," said frontman Box Garchitorena and composer Ernie Bangiban. "This song is dedicated to all our athletes and to the unwavering Filipino spirit. Mabuhay ang Pilipinas!"
Indeed, today, just a day after Hidilyn Diaz's record-breaking performance, the lyrics of the song ring true more than ever before: "Panahon na'ng ipakita sa buong mundo mabuhay ka, ito na'ng pagkakataon. .. Pilipino ang dugo natin itaas mo ang bandilang dala mo 'Wag kang matakot Lumaban at magwagi! Iwagayway ang bandila sa mundo!"
